Borjuis Font Review: A Playful Script for Campaign Creatives

It’s 2 p.m. on a Thursday, and I’m deep into designing the visuals for an upcoming summer product launch. The brand wants something fresh, something that feels like it was crafted with joy and spontaneity. That’s when I pulled out Borjuis — a whimsical script typeface from Script Amp — and everything shifted. Suddenly, my designs had a more inviting, lighthearted energy. In this review, I’ll walk you through how Borjuis performed in a real campaign workflow and why it might be a great fit for your next digital push.

First Impressions and Visual Style

Borjuis is not your average display font. Its playful curves and irregular rhythm give it a unique charm that immediately sets it apart from generic script fonts. It has a handcrafted feel without being too messy or illegible. Each character flows with a sense of movement, almost as if it were drawn by someone having fun rather than following strict typographic rules.

The personality of Borjuis leans toward the youthful and creative. It communicates warmth, creativity, and a touch of irreverence. This makes it ideal for campaigns targeting younger audiences, lifestyle brands, or anything where a bit of flair can elevate the message. It’s also surprisingly versatile; while it looks best in bold statements, it adapts well to softer applications when paired correctly.

Real-World Application: Product Teaser Series

For this campaign, we were launching a new line of eco-friendly water bottles aimed at millennials and Gen Z. We needed a teaser series across Instagram and Pinterest that felt energetic but still aligned with the brand’s clean aesthetic. I used Borjuis for the headlines and callouts in each image.

In the first teaser, the headline “Stay Hydrated, Stay Happy” was set in Borjuis over a bright blue background. The contrast between the bold script and the color worked beautifully, drawing attention without overwhelming the layout. For Pinterest pins, which often need to catch the eye quickly, the fluid motion of Borjuis helped create a sense of motion and excitement.

On Instagram Reels covers, we reduced the text size significantly. Even then, Borjuis held up thanks to its strong visual presence and distinct letterforms. It’s rare to find a script font that reads clearly in small sizes, but Borjuis managed it with minimal tweaking.

Readability and Mobile Performance

One concern I always have with script fonts is readability, especially on mobile screens. But Borjuis surprised me. While it’s definitely a decorative typeface, it doesn’t sacrifice legibility entirely. The key is using it smartly — keep it for short phrases, headlines, or call-to-action buttons where clarity isn’t compromised by style.

I tested it on various devices and found that it works best when paired with generous leading and a solid stroke weight. On dark backgrounds, I added a subtle white outline to ensure visibility. For light backgrounds, the natural contrast of the font was enough. When building thumbnails for YouTube, I made sure to limit the word count and focus on one keyword per frame, allowing the viewer to read quickly and decide whether to watch.

Another plus is its file format support. We used WOFF and TTF for our web banners and social media assets, and they loaded smoothly without performance issues. The font’s multilingual support also came in handy for international ads we were running in Spanish and French markets.

Brand Recognition and Message Clarity

Borjuis helped reinforce the brand’s identity as fun and approachable. The font’s unique rhythm and character shapes gave the campaign a signature look that stood out in fast-scrolling feeds. Viewers could instantly recognize the campaign just by seeing the headline style.

However, it’s important to note that Borjuis isn’t a font for long-form copy. Using it in body text would be a mistake. Instead, I reserved it for title treatments and promotional slogans. When combined with a clean sans serif for supporting text, the contrast allowed the message to pop without confusing the audience.

We also used it in a branded template pack for email banners and website headers. The consistency across platforms strengthened the campaign’s visual language and helped maintain brand recognition even in varied formats.

Font Pairing and Creative Use

To get the most out of Borjuis, I paired it with a modern sans serif like Montserrat or a classic serif such as Lora. These combinations balanced the whimsy of the script with the professionalism of the secondary typefaces, making the overall design feel intentional and cohesive.

Here are some of the pairings I tested:

I also experimented with using it alongside another handwritten font, but that only worked in very limited cases — mostly for signature-like elements or behind-the-scenes content. For the main messaging, sticking to one script font kept things consistent and professional-looking.

Campaign Suitability and Limitations

Borjuis shines brightest in short, impactful messages. Think of it as the spark plug in your design toolkit — it’s not meant to carry the entire load. Here are some situations where it performed exceptionally well:

  1. Sale announcements: Bold, attention-grabbing headlines like “50% Off This Week Only!” looked amazing in Borjuis.
  2. YouTube thumbnails: As mentioned earlier, it caught eyes without becoming unreadable, even in smaller sizes.
  3. Instagram quote graphics: Short, motivational quotes paired with product shots gained a lot of visual appeal with Borjuis as the primary typeface.
  4. Webinar banners: Titles like “Unlock Summer Energy Secrets” felt both exciting and trustworthy when rendered in this font.

That said, it didn’t work well in the following scenarios:

Commercial Licensing and Design Assets

Before finalizing the campaign, I checked the licensing details for Borjuis. It comes with a commercial license, which is crucial for any paid ad, merchandise, or client deliverables. The included styles and alternates offered enough flexibility to vary the tone slightly across different posts — sometimes more cursive, sometimes tighter and punchier.

For the online shop promotion part of the campaign, we used it for category titles and product highlights. The font’s uniqueness helped differentiate the brand from competitors who were relying on standard sans serifs or stock scripts. We also used it sparingly in packaging design mockups, where it added a nice artistic touch without overshadowing the essential product info.

Ligatures and alternate characters provided extra character variety, which was helpful when creating a series of Instagram posts with similar themes but visually distinct text treatments. The font system was easy to implement across Canva templates, Photoshop comps, and After Effects animations, which saved us time during production.

Final Takeaways for Marketers and Designers

If you’re looking for a creative font that brings a sense of joy and individuality to your campaign visuals, Borjuis is worth considering. It’s a premium font that behaves more like a designer tool than a novelty script. However, it should be used strategically — not everywhere.

My advice? Start by testing it in your most high-impact visuals. See how it performs in thumbnails, headers, and social post titles. If you notice engagement increasing and your team feeling more excited about the design direction, consider expanding its use in supporting roles.

Always check the included weights and file formats before committing to a large-scale rollout. And remember, no matter how stylish the font is, it must serve the message. Borjuis does that best when it’s given room to breathe — in headlines, taglines, and short bursts of copy.

So, next time you’re prepping a digital ad set or brainstorming for a webinar banner, don’t overlook Borjuis. It may just be the spark your campaign needs to stand out in a sea of sameness.
